Spoke with the owner of leftcoastelectric.com yesterday about the electric Porsche Speedster replica he was driving yesterday. Said he could go from Studio City to Palm Springs on a single $1.50 charge...awesome.
LCE is now converting AND restoring classic cars. Most are of the ABC's, that is Arcane British Cars. But any car up to the early 70's early would be great. Why this time period, you ask? Cause there is less plastic. The drivetrain on an electric conversion will last at least half a million miles. so why not drive something cool that doesn't have a lot of plastic that is going to rot and not be replaceable. But the sky is the limit. How about a completely fiberglass 65 Mustang on a tube chassis with 4 wheel independent suspension? Just a thought looking for the right customer...
LCE is completely committed to lithium polymer batteries and AC drive systems. These may be more expensive initially but are cheaper in the long run. Although lead acid is cheaper, it is just so easy to ruin a pack of batteries, that most owners will have replaced them 3 of 4 times before the lithiums go bad.
